La Trinidad, Benguet – As Valentine's Day nears, flower growers of Bahong, La Trinidad, the Rose Capital of the Philippines, appealed to locals to support local growers by buying their produce instead of imported flowers.

The flower growers, as reported by Regional News Group - RNG Luzon on Monday, February 01, are hoping that Valentine's Day would help in their recovery as they are among those who were most affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

It can be remembered that with the cancellation of events and social gatherings last year, the flowers produced by the farmers were wasted.

Now that the restrictions are not as stringent as before, they are expecting to rebound from the past disappointment. Bahong is the major producer of roses delivered to various parts of the country.

“Dapat po sanang tangkilin yung mga sariling ating mga cut flowers ano po, kasi ito nga, minsan may mga pumapasok talagang mga imported, nanggagaling sa mga ibang bansa so we are asking sana na our support is for our farmers dito sa Benguet para mabenta o mabebenta lahat ng mga bulaklak po natin,” Barangay Captain of Bahong, Belmer Elis said.

Meanwhile, the farmers assured that the supply of flowers for the upcoming Valentine’s Day is enough with prices ranging from P250 to P700 per bundle.
