Balbalan, Kalinga – Ross Damian, a proud son of Balbalan, emerged as one of the Fearless Highlanders who captured a gold medal at the country’s biggest sporting event, the 2026 Palarong Pambansa, currently underway in Agusan del Sur.

Damian, together with Ryan Nabejet and Johann Ventura, represented the Cordillera Administrative Region in the Secondary Boys' Team Poomsae event on May 27 at the Bayugan City Convention Center. Their outstanding display of precision, power, and synchronization earned them the championship title and the coveted gold medal.

In an interview with Rappler, Damian shared that while they entered the competition with confidence, they ultimately entrusted the outcome to God.

“We have the confidence po pero we always trust in God po … kumbaga we just ask the guidance from the Lord and si Lord na po ang bahala at siya po ang nakakaalam kung ano pong award ang maibibigay sa amin,” he said.

Damian is the son of former Balbalan Vice Mayor Rowina Alison Damian and the grandson of incumbent Vice Mayor Regina Munda Cruz.

Meanwhile, Mayor Almar Malannag expressed pride and admiration for Damian and his teammates following their remarkable achievement at the Palarong Pambansa. He commended the young athlete's grit, dedication, and discipline, which propelled him to the top of the podium.
