Balbalan, Tanudan LGU to attend DTI regional CMCI workshop, awarding ceremony in Baguio City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The local government units of Balbalan and Tanudan are among four LGUs from the province of Kalinga participating in the Regional Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) workshop and awarding ceremony slated for December 5 - 6, 2023 in Baguio City.


CMCI is an annual ranking program organized by the country’s DTI Competitiveness Bureau that measures the economic growth of LGUs at the provincial, city, and municipal levels.


DTI - Kalinga Industry Development Division OIC Benedicta Mangadap, relayed that Balbalan and Tanudan along with Pasil and Tabuk LGUs are attending the event.

The activity includes a planning workshop that will be held on the first day and will be followed by the awarding ceremony on the second day.


In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Mangadap said the workshop aims to encourage the participating LGUs to improve their economic competitiveness.


“Nu siak koma ket maysa nga investor, kitak ti profile ti municipalities. . . . makitak idiay ti economic strength da and economic weakness da . . . . the workshop aims to encourage LGU’S tapno i-improve the koma ti economic competitiveness da.” she explained.


As for the awarding, the top 20 LGUs in the Cordillera region that met the CMCI 5 pillars of competitiveness are set to receive their award.


The five pillars include Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation.


The awards of these LGUs are based on the weighted average of their population and income in the five categories.
