Benguet artists are gold medalists in ‘World Championships of Performing Arts’


Benguet, Philippines - A model and a contortionist dancer from the province of Benguet were among the Philippine delegates who emerged victorious after winning the 2023 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) title, held at Anaheim, California recently.


Now in its 26th year, the competition described as ‘Talent Olympics’ is the only program for prepared and anticipated performers and entertainers held annually and judged by “Hollywood” industry professionals.

Contestants from over 70 countries showcased their talents during the talent competition.


In said event, Jason Ivan Timbal Sobremonte, from Tuba, Benguet was hailed as the Contortion Flexibility and Contortion Advanced Division champion after securing a gold medal in the dance category, a silver medal in Contortion advance, and a bronze medal in Contortion Open.


Xyza Nicole Aguilar from La Trinidad, meantime, likewise secured 2 gold medals in the formal and casual wear category, a silver medal in the swimwear category, and 2 plaques in the modeling division championship.

Three other Cordillerans PH-representatives, Sesy Lou Bucalen-Salazar, from the province of Kalinga, Gina Emuang and Angelica Pen Licuadan from Baguio City, also bagged medals in other areas.


Overall, the Philippines have been crowned the Grand Champion of the prestigious international competition once again after six years, bringing home a total of 362 medals.
