Baguio City, Philippines – Farmers from Benguet took an unprecedented step by offering their carrot produce for free to passersby at Burnham Park in Baguio City on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023.

Reports emerged that the prices of this commodity drastically plummeted to as low as P1 per kilogram, leading them to take the extraordinary step of providing their harvest without charge to those visiting the park.

Earlier, boxes labeled 'A.B.C. BAGUIO' containing carrots and potatoes, purportedly from Baguio and Benguet, were distributed in major markets like Tondo in Manila, and Olongapo in Zambales.

However, the League of Associations at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Area revealed that these products were not genuinely sourced from those regions but were smuggled instead.

Expressing concern, the league urged the national government and relevant agencies to support their fight against smuggling and aid local producers in safeguarding their interests.
