Brgy. Tanods, BHW in Appas, Tabuk City undergo basic life support training to enhance emergency response skills

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Rescue and health personnel in Appas, Tabuk City, Kalinga upgraded their skills inappropriate handlingof critical situations in the community thru a two-day training on Basic Life Support (BLS).

 

Said activity was held by the Tabuk City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) on November 21–22, 2024 at the new barangay hall of Appas and was participated in by the tanods and health workers in said barangay.

 

The training aimed at equipping participants to respond properly to critical situations. which minimizes response time during emergencies, whether within the barangay or elsewhere.

 

According to several studies, it is estimated that about a quarter of a million may die each year due to a lack of first aid knowledge. Accordingly, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can provide a 200%-300% chance of survival if performed immediately after cardiac arrest. For every minute without CPR, survival from witnessed cardiac arrest decreases by 7–10%. Thus, the need for such training in Barangay Appas to manage critical medical emergencies within its vicinity and its neighboring barangays.

 

During the training, the participants learned essential techniques to save lives through the practical demonstrations of performing CPR, managing choking incidents, and first aid.

 

The CDRRMC staff organized the hands-on demonstrations of each strategy to ensure the attendees understood the steps involved in responding to accidents.

 

Appas Secretary Brenda Depalog, in an interview with the Guru Press Cordillera, said this kind of exercise is highly beneficial to the BLGU since it strengthens their tanods and health professionals so they can respond promptly to emergencies.

 

"Basically, safety and security ti tao tayo ti talaga met nga prayoridad ti barangay," added the secretary.

 

Barangay Appas, led by Captain Bernard Glenn Dao-as, remains committed to caring for its residents. In line with this, improving its response capacity in various situations has been the thrust of the BLGU in creating a safer and more resilient community, capable and ready to face different challenges that might come their way.
