Burglar kills woman, injures man after being caught stealing in Cagayan

Piat, Cagayan – A thief stabbed a woman to death and injured a man after he was caught stealing from a house in Santa Barbara, Piat, Cagayan over the weekend.

Maricon Reyes, the fatality, was asked by her sister to look over their house while on an outing on August 05 when the incident happened, Piat police said.

On said day, the victim heard some noise at her sister’s house, urging her to check what was going on inside.

There, he saw the suspect, identified by police as Darwin Tumbali, a resident of said area stealing some belongings.

The suspect is said to have been surprised when someone caught him, causing him to stab Maricon seven times which led to the latter’s death.

Anthony Reyes, 41, Maricon's husband, was also allegedly stabbed by the suspect when he tried to rescue his wife.

Residents in the area, along with the Quick Response Team of Piat, ferried the couple to the hospital but Maricon was declared dead.

It appears from the police investigation that the suspect was able to easily enter the house due to a broken door knob.

The suspect is now in police custody and will be facing multiple charges of Robbery with Homicide and Physical Injury.
