Cadaver of 16-year-old who drowned in raging river in Benguet found after 9 days


Itogon, Benguet - After nine days of search operation, the 16-year-old female who went missing after being swept away by rapid river waters at the Agno river in Sitio Salapsap, Dalupirip, Itogon on October 23 has been found.


Her cadaver was found around 2 PM this Monday, October 31, at Pangvasan, Dalupirip, according to Barangay Captain Edwin Atompag.

Her identity was confirmed based on the pictures sent to government rescuers and volunteers.


Recovery efforts have been carried out by rescuers not minding the threat of Typhoon Paeng, thus the discovery of the victim's body.


Collen Chance P. Flores,16, a student at the University of Cordilleras, drowned when she and her cousin went for a swim at the Agno River.


They were supposed to cross to swim to the other side, but they were swept away by the strong currents.

Her companion, Cherry Leigh Dumalog Pangang-at, survived the incident when she was able to hold on to a rock.


LGU Itogon through the MDRRMO headed by Engr. Cyril Batcagan with Barangay LGU Dalupirip and Virac, local BFP and PNP, and Itogon MHSO have been manning the search and rescue for the last eight days.


They were assisted by the Baguio CDRRMC, Benguet 2nd PMFC, Philippine Navy, and Barangay Kias BDRRMC.
