CAFGU member in Banaue commits suicide after killing soldier, 2 others

Banaue, Ifugao – A member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) committed suicide after killing an army and two other CAFGU members in Banaue, Ifugao.

This, according to the 5th Infantry Division, is the first incident where a trooper in Northern Luzon shot his comrades.

At around 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, the suspect, identified by Banaue police as CAFGU - Active Auxiliary (CAA) member Jebilie Banghuyao, had a drinking spree with the victims inside their mess hall at Sitio Mount Polis in Barangay Viewpoint, Banaue, Ifugao.

“Yung suspek may naungkat siya na issue regarding sa duty-han nila sa kampo nila. Itong enlisted na Patrol Base Commander nila, kinausap siya na kung pwede ay kinabukasan na lang nila pag-usapan para mas maganda ‘yong explanation niya,” Banaue Police Station Chief, PMAJ Richard Ananayo reported.

After Bunghayao was pacified by their Patrol Base Commander, SSg. Andrew D. Dulnuan, CAA Jherowin Numbunal Pepe assisted him towards his bunker. However, the suspect went back to the mess hall with an M16 rifle.

Pepe later heard gunshots. He rushed to the scene where he saw Banghuyao holding his firearm. He then went to report the incident at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion camp.

The suspect, meanwhile, allegedly used the same weapon to shoot himself to death.

Dulnuan, along with victims CAA Alfone Maguiwe and CAA Sanny Bumad-ang, was ferried to Bontoc General Hospital but did not survive the fatal gunshot wounds they sustained.

It was soon revealed by CAA Coordinator, Rolly Racadio that the suspect had family problems.
