The World Police and Fire games is an event to promote comradery through sports and cultural exchange from the different law enforcement and fire service personnel across the world.

This year, it is reported that almost 10,000 people who work in police, fire, customs, and corrections departments from different countries have competed in more than 60 sports from July 22-31. The said game is the second biggest event in the world after the Olympic games.

Santiago joined the Philippine National Police delegation to represent the country in the said event.

The policewoman got another three gold medals after defeating players from Hongkong, Brazil, and China in ‘Poomsae’ Taekwondo category.

Santiago’s love for martial arts

Santiago is not new to competitions, especially in the said sports category.

She is a member of Taekwondo Team since 2015 as well as in ‘Kyorugi’ Fin Weight and ‘Pomsae’.

Further, she participated in the AFP, PNP, and Philippine Coast Guard Olympics, giving her adequate experience in taekwondo.

Santiago revealed she was chosen by the PNP to represent the team and the country in the said international event due to her records.

Santiago’s preparation for the competition

Santiago said the pandemic prevented her from having her routine exercise for more than two years, putting on more weight. Thus, to recondition herself before the competition, she had to do intermittent fasting.

Part of her preparation is thorough and strict training, despite the demands of her duty.

In addition, Santiago stated that she attended early workouts with her teammates. After she finished her task, she had to return to the training grounds to continue her training and work on her endurance, which is necessary to win a match.

Santiago's advice to colleagues

Santiago encouraged co-workers to continue working well and be a good example to motivate and inspire young people in the field of sports.

“Sa lahat ng kapwa kong pulis maging magandang ehemplo sa kabataan at sa ating mga kababayan. Huwag tayong mahihiya na ipakita ang ating talento upang maging inspirasyon din tayo sa ating mga atleta na mag pursige sa pag-aaral at maging pulis upang maipagpatuloy parin ang kanilang hilig sa sports at siyempre makapag-silbi sa ating mahal na bayan,” said PSSG Santiago through Cagayan Information Office.

Santiago likewise said she has plans to train children to foster discipline and enhance their talents in the field of sports through the PNP sports program.
