Cagayan, Philippines – The Province of Cagayan logged the highest number of suicide cases this year, based on records of the Philippine National Police in Region 2.
Since January this year, the Police Regional Office 2 has documented a total of 129 cases of suicide in the Cagayan Valley, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported.
Of the figure, 57 incidents happened in the Province of Cagayan. This is followed by Isabela with 44 cases; Nueva Vizcaya, 26; and Quirino with 2.
The latest incident was said to involve a 12-year-old kid from Solana, Cagayan.
With these cases, the PNP Region 2 urges parents to guide their kids and be more attentive to their children’s needs and to discern if they are going through something that might lead to a case of suicide.
According to the findings of the University of the Philippines Population Institute, nearly one in five young Filipinos has thought of taking their life. Their findings also revealed that almost 1.5 million youth tried to commit suicide in 2021.
