College sweethearts from Abra graduated Magna Cum Laude

Setting an example of a ‘couple goal’, college sweethearts in Bangued, Abra finished their degree as Magna Cum Laude on June 10, 2022 at the Divine Word College of Bangued.

Bonifacio Tumalip Jr. and Magda Ria Piedad finished their undergraduate degrees with Latin honors in their respective courses, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social Studies, respectively.

The two have been together for four years now.

Magda Ria’s opinion of her boyfriend

In her Facebook post, Magda Ria conveyed she had not only found a lover, but also a brother, adviser, best friend, and light in Bonifacio.

She recounted how disappointed some people were when they learned she is in a relationship with Bonifacio, saying that she would not be able to finish her studies.

In spite of the negative comments, the two have remained stronger.

Magda Ria narrated that Bonifacio would always drive her home after class at 8:00 PM. Bonifacio made sure she is safe and that sending her home is a priority.

One night, however, on February 14, 2019, the two got into a road accident. The incident, she said, left them a lesson.

“I am filled with so much joy for this success of ours not only because one of our dreams are unlocked but because with this, we can truly say that "hindi lahat ng nagbo-boyfriend/girlfriend habang nag-aaral ay hindi makakapagtapos, ang iba parehong nagiging Magna Cum Laude na magtatapos,” she wrote.

‘We never gave up on our prayers’

In a separate post, Bonifacio said studying accounting was never easy, but there was no stopping him from pursuing the dream. Thus, he doubled his efforts while holding onto faith.

He said among the people who contributed to his success is his girlfriend, Magda Ria, who was always there in good times and bad times.

“We can now really say that this is a relationship goal. We never gave up on our prayers. Both of us have grown and reached the goals we ever dreamed of,” he said.
