Cordilleran fighters amass 9 gold medals in international Jiu-Jitsu games

Baguio City, Philippines – After more than a decade, the country’s most decorated Mix Martial Arts team joined an international Jiu-Jitsu competition where they collected a total of 9 gold medals.


Said event is the 2023 Pan Asian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines (BJJFP) Gi and No Gi International Open, one of the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu international games in Asia since 2005.

The activity was held at Ayala Malls Circuit in Makati on July 16, 2023.


Team Lakay sent 12 of its athletes to play in the contest where they took home a total of 18 awards – 9 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze.


Medalists are Nahuel Gandolfi who bagged silver and 2 gold; Jhanlo Mark Sangiao, gold and silver; Jared Almazan, silver and bronze; Conan Adegawa, silver; Joris Jonker, gold; Jaybe Ban-eg, gold and bronze; Firoz Khan, bronze; Carlo Von Bumina-ang, 2 gold; Jean Claude Saclag, gold; Adonis Sevillino, silver; John Ira Barrientos, bronze; and Ayan Ekef who got a gold medal.


“After more than 10 years, the Lakays joined an international BJJ event once again! Our athletes were able to gain experience, exposure and MEDALS!” Team Lakay wrote on Facebook.
