Couple in Cagayan save motorist’s life in middle of wedding ‘bisperas’

Cagayan, Philippines – A bride and a groom were supposed to be enjoying the ‘bisperas’ of their wedding, but they were out saving a life on December 28.

The couple, Jen Macarubbo and Joeff Cartagena who are both fire officers exchanged “I dos” on December 29 in Tuguegarao City.

The night before their special day, the couple proved that the ‘call of duty’ goes beyond any occasion. This is after they responded to a road accident in the middle of the ‘bisperas’ celebration of their wedding in Barangay Gosi Sur.

At the time, attendees were dancing when a motorist who was described to be drunk got into an accident near the venue. Without thinking twice, the bride and groom who are both registered nurses assisted and provided first aid to the motorist.

According to Jen, no matter when and where, they are there to adhere to the call of duty.

“Kahit saan tawagin ng tungkulin," she told Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

After saving the life of the man, meantime, the couple proceeded to marry each other the following day.

“Finally, we’ve overcome numerous pains and struggles to materialize this dream wedding. Many years have passed filled with countless discussions, plans, and even disagreements yet here we are turning our dreams into reality,” Jen conveyed in their wedding film.

Joeff, for his part, described how his bride meant to him saying, “Every moment spent in your presence fuels the fire in my heart – a flame that burns brighter with each passing day. Your touch ignites my soul and your presence kindles a warmth that transcends all bounds of ordinary affection.”
