'COVID-19 cases in the region are mostly asymptomatic, mild' – DOH-CAR

Baguio City, Philippines – The Department of Health-Cordillera said that most of the COVID-19 cases in the region are mild and asymptomatic, owing primarily to the region’s high vaccination rollout.

DOH-CAR, through the Philippine Information Agency, said that out of the 8,307 active cases in the region as of Wednesday, Jan. 19, 5,684 are experiencing mild and no symptoms. 76 cases are moderate and 18 are critical, while the 2,529 are still being verified.

Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, DOH-CAR regional director and spokesperson, said that these mild and asymptomatic cases are primarily attributed to the region’s high vaccination rate.

The agency, in a separate report via PIA, said that “1,016,122 individuals in the region have received complete doses of the Covid-19 vaccine while 132,990 have already been inoculated with booster shots.”

Meanwhile, the hospital care utilization rate in the region, as of today, is 61.83 percent and is classified under moderate risk.

The current utilization rate shows that out of the 413 hospital ward beds, 235 are now occupied. Out of the 517 isolation beds, 355 are currently in use. Out of the 90 intensive care unit beds, 58 are being used.

The same report also flagged Kalinga as under critical risk having reached 86.87 percent in its bed utilization rate. Ifugao and Mountain Province with 70.45 percent and 72.90 percent utilization rates, respectively, are classified under high risk.
