Tabuk City, Kalinga – Former City Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as wants to continue what he started in Barangay Appas as he vies for barangay captain this coming Oct. 30.

Dao-as is known for his anti-corruption advocacy, leading the filing of graft and corruption charges against Tabuk City Mayor Darwin Estrañero who is now serving a six months suspension ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Dao-as was elected as punong barangay in Appas in 2013 and was unopposed in 2018. He continued serving until 2019 when he won as the City Vice Mayor of Tabuk City.

Now that the people are choosing their next set of leaders for their village, Dao-as filed his candidacy to continue pursuing his vision for Appas.

“Nag-decide tayo nga tumaray ulit ta ituloy tayo dagiay haan tayo pay nga naaramid idi nga pangarap tayo nga pagsayaatan daytoy barangay tayo nga Appas. Kayat tayo met nga karkaru nga papintasen ken paggwapuen daytoy barangay tayo,” Dao-as said.

Bringing back ‘quarry watchman’

Among his plans include the designation of a quarry watchman whose task, during his term since 2013, was to collect quarry fees and turn them over to the treasurer every afternoon. Dao-as emphasized this was one of the sources of income of barangay Appas before that when he ascended as the vice mayor, he was able to leave more than P4 million in funding at the barangay hall.

“Nabaknang daytoy barangay mi nga Appas nu la ketdi napintas iti panakaimanehar dagiti pondo ken panakakolekta iti pondo,” he stressed.

He added he also plans on improving farm-to-market roads in the barangay, and that he wants to bring back festive celebrations in Appas to provide an avenue for the people particularly the younger ones to showcase their skills and talents.

Source out funding outside

Dao-as also answered speculations that should he win as the barangay captain of Appas on Oct. 30, the barangay’s budget would suffer given his history with City Mayor Estrañero.

He emphasized that apart from the Internal Revenue Allotment of the barangay, he could source out funding from the provincial and national government.

‘Pilien diay ammu na nga agserbi’

Dao-as encourages the constituents in Appas to choose the candidates who have the best interest of the public, and those who have the heart to serve and who can really contribute to the barangay.

“Daytoy ta barangay election daytoy ket taga barangay Appas kami met amin. Aga-ammu kami met amin ket pilien da diay ammu da nga agserbi iti barangay haan nga diay agnamnama iti barangay iti pilien da. Diay makatulong iti barangay ken bumarangay, isu ah iti piliyen da, diay talaga adda puso na nga agserbi, diay talaga nga mangisakit iti kabarangayan nga taga Appas,” he said.
