“Discrimination against Igorots won’t be happening again,” Congressman Mangaoang

Tabuk City, Kalinga―House Resolution No. 1552 has been filed to shed light on the production of learning materials with discriminatory information and portrayals to fellow Igorots, said Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang.


Mangaoang together with the other congressmen from Cordillera authored and filed the house resolution after circulation of learning materials containing erroneous information and derogatory portrayals of Igorots went viral online which in turn received uproar of criticisms from the Igorots.



“We address the house resolution to particularly have committee on rules, may we come up with a committee hearing we’ll be calling DepEd, and other involved people to shed light on why there were textbooks and learning modules like this which is very discriminatory kadagiti pada nga Igorot,” he said.

Mangaoang also mentioned that as the Chairman of the Committee on Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples, he is determined for the approval of the said house resolution in order for these kind of discriminations won’t be happening again.


“Precisely why we’re coming with the committee hearing tapno haan kuma nga maulit dagita, we will wait for schedule committee hearing so that nu anya ti action ti committee on rules diay resolution tayo kasi as the chair of the committee on cultural communities and indigenous peoples, we are heavily supported by the Congressmen of CAR on the resolution we have filed,” he said.


Meantime, Mangaoang requested fellow Igorots to not over act on the matter and not be too upset since the remarks are all untrue and corrections are already being made.
