DOST Kalinga awards best SETUP adopter to Mt. Zion Bakery

Tabuk City, Kalinga― Mt. Zion Bakery thru Ms. Sally Pepito of Barangay Bantay, Tabuk City was awarded as Provincial Best Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Adopter during the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) SETUP Summit at Davidson Hotel this November 26 for excelling in business.

Said awardee has excelled in Productivity, Resilience, Agility, Innovation, Sustainability and Excellence (PRAISE) when managing and sustaining its business which received PhP10,000 and plaque of recognition.

Mt. Zion Bakery started from having only 2 employees with minimal equipment and was just baking 7 kinds of bread.

It was in 2016 when Sally engaged in SETUP programs which helped developed her skills and upgraded equipment having her own stainless table, oven, dough roller, bread slicer and mixer. At present, with 7 employees, they are baking 29 kinds of bread for rotation and 7 veggie cookies.

Sally Pepito, owner of Mt. Zion Bakery, shares pieces of advice on how she succeeded on the implementation of the program as well as excelled on the management of her business.

“Salamat ta di nag avail nak dakkel ti improvement na, ti maishare ko ket diay relasyon kadagiti kakadwa nga agtrabaho adda latta diay ayat, haan tayo nga aggastos ti more than ti kita tayo, ken matallek tayo ti tattao, ti gobyerno, kadagiti tumultulong kadatayo ket talken datayo met,” she said.

Moreover, the SETUP summit engaged the participants on Online Marketing Strategies and OneStore, digital marketing that incorporates e-commerce in the operations of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) discussed by invited speakers.

Said summit is a package of activities intended for MSMEs that aims to provide tips and ideas on online marketing strategies and increase awareness on the DOST’s OneStore as a platform for online marketing especially in the “new normal”.
