DOST Kalinga grants Balbalan Association P.2M equipment incentive

Tabuk City, Kalinga―Papaltungon Coffee Producers Association of Balbalan as 2020 Regional Best CEST Implementer awarded with worth P200,000 equipment incentive during the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Community Empowerment for Science and Technology (CEST) Forum this November 25, 2020.

Said association won as Regional Best CEST Implementer in 2019 for creating another industry from waste materials by applying the coffee rejuvenation technology.

Papaltungon Coffee Producers Association, a community-based coffee farmers association in Pantikyan, Balbalan, is assisted by the DOST in the production and processing of highland coffee products.

Ponciano Gumabay, Jr., President of Papaltungon Coffee Producers Association expressed his gratitude for the concerted efforts of the agencies especially to DOST to further develop their coffee rejuvenation project.

“Ket dakkel ti yaman mi iti naduma duma nga ahensya ti gobyerno tayo nga timmultulong nga mangkitkita ken mangsupsuporta ket haan da kuma maum uma nga mangted latta ti suporta kadakami nga farmers ta babaen ti tulong da, natrain kami nu kas ano nga makita nga adu gayam ti pangusaran diyay kape tayo, haan lang nga diay in inumen tayo ti bunga na nu di ket mabalin gayam nga maaramid nga souvenir items ken daduma pay,” he said.

The equipment incentive will be utilized for the materials in processing coffee berries which include coffee dryers, grain moisture tester, and storage bags.

Furthermore, the forum launched the CEST Online Portal that will help the agency reach out to the program’s beneficiaries under the new normal.

The portal provides data of the CEST projects being implemented across the country which can be accessed by the public. Individuals seeking assistance about CEST can directly send their inquiries through the chat box provided in the website. Other features of the portal will be provided during the official launching on the date mentioned above.

Also, the presentation of CEST for Communist-Terrorists Groups (CTG)-affected areas in Kalinga, a project for implementation to support ELCAC and the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Bill were briefly discussed.
