Pinukpuk, Kalinga – A 37-year-old farmer in Pinukpuk is facing statutory rape charges and act of lasciviousness after he was arrested by authorities on Tuesday, October 18.

According to Pinukpuk police, the minor victim, whose name is withheld, said the man had sexual relations with her and that the incident happened in May 2021 at the house of the victim’s mother.

After being informed of the case, the police made an intelligence build-up and case tracking, which later led to the arrest.

At present, the suspect is at the Pinukpuk Municipal Police Station.

The suspect was arrested by virtue of a warrant arrest issued by the Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 25 Hon. Jerson E. Angog last August.

The suspect whose name was withheld by police is also the Top 7 Most Wanted Person in the region.

What is statutory rape?

Statutory rape refers to non-forcible sexual activity in which one of the involved parties is younger than the legal consent age or the age at which such behavior is permitted, while the act of lasciviousness includes kissing, embracing, and holding a woman's breast against her will.

The previous law states that sexual intercourse with children below 12 years old is illegal and tantamount to rape, but with the enactment of Republic Act 116481, the minimum age of sexual consent from 12 was raised to 16 years old.

In the case of the suspect, his statutory rape charge has no recommended bail while the act of lasciviousness has a recommended bail of P200,000.
