Farmers in Cordillera warned not to patronize banned fertilizers, pesticides

Baguio City, Philippines – Farmers in the Cordillera region are urged to report and refrain from buying five fertilizers currently banned for use by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) - Cordillera.

This is after the agency found out that Turbo Prime, Turbo Multi, Xian Bee, Takada Triple 14, and Vio Crop fertilizers are non-compliant with their prescribed rules and regulation.

The agency, in a report by the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera on Thursday, November 24, said the fertilizers were found to have very low nutrient content based on laboratory test results and to avoid problems it may cause to farmers, the public should not patronize these products.

“The reason for placing these five brands of fertilizer as banned by the FPA was based on the results of the laboratory tests, which showed a very low nutrient content. We continue to ask the public to report and refrain from patronizing these products that might be circulating in the region to combat its proliferation,” FPA CAR Regional Officer Rogelio Tanguid said.

Accordingly, suspension orders are issued to local fertilizer producers once found out that they are not complying with the prescribed rules and regulations of FPA.

DA-Cordillera said the basis of the suspension orders is because the products failed to meet the permissible minimum tolerance guaranteed for the analysis.’

Local producers are then mandated to recall the products and pull them out of the market immediately. FPA, meantime, will issue corrective measures they should willingly undergo.
