Farmers in Pasil undergo training for coffee rejuvenation


Pasil, Kalinga – To improve coffee production and provide the farmers more opportunities to earn, the Department of Agriculture- Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) recently trained the marginalized farmer-beneficiaries belonging to Guina-ang, Pasil Farmers’ Association.


Conducted on October 5 to 6, 2021, the training focused on coffee rejuvenation by means of ‘cutting of vertical stems of old coffee trees to induce growth of new sprouts.’ Rebecca Wanas of the Office of the Municipal Agriculture Services graced said training.


According to DA-SAAD, the program intends to alleviate the beneficiaries from poverty while trying to attain food security in the area.


Meanwhile, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) had a buy-in session with DA, Sangguniang Bayan of Pasil, barangay chairpersons and cooperative representatives on October 5, 2021.


The session is part of DAR-Kalinga’s Coffee Development Program Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer discussed DAR’s intention to enhance the coffee industry.

According to DAR, 686.5525 hectares are covered by the Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) with 383 beneficiaries. Aside from rice, a large part of this is planted with coffee.


The Municipal Agriculture Services Office acknowledged that with the growing demand for coffee, assistance is needed in its production considering that Pasil is a diversified agricultural municipality with coffee as one of its leading products.


In its press release, DAR stated that the session brought hope as the stakeholders signified their interest in helping each other in the plan.
