Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A father and his teenage son were killed, while the mother sustained serious injuries, after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a dump truck along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Namabbalan Norte, Tuguegarao City, on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2026.

The victims were identified by police as a 66-year-old farmer, his 15-year-old son, a high school student, and the man's 40-year-old wife.

The son was driving the motorcycle, with his parents riding as passengers.

According to a report from the Tuguegarao City Police Station, cited by local media outlets, the accident occurred at around 3:00 p.m.

Initial investigation and CCTV footage showed that the motorcycle suddenly crossed the road while following another large vehicle. The maneuver resulted in what police described as an "unavoidable" collision with an Isuzu dump truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact was so powerful that the motorcycle was dragged by the truck along the highway, leaving the victims with severe injuries.

Responders from the City Rescue Team and the Bureau of Fire Protection immediately rushed the victims to a nearby hospital. However, the 66-year-old father and his 15-year-old son were declared dead shortly after arriving at around 3:30 p.m.

The mother survived the crash but sustained injuries and remains confined in the hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old dump truck driver is under police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Under Article 365 of the Revised Penal Code, charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property may be filed if no amicable settlement is reached.
