Flashflood-affected families in Tanudan, Kalinga receive relief aid

Tanudan, Kalinga – Families from Lubo, Tanudan affected by the flash flood caused by a tropical depression last month received aid in relief goods on September 10, 2022, according to Tanudan police.


Typhoon Florita left damages and devastation to Kalinga, with P34,887,757 valued worth of corn, and rice destroyed. Apart from these, there were instances of landslides and erosion in several areas, with Tanudan experiencing flash floods due to heavy downpours.


424 pieces of family food packs, 212 pieces of collapsible water dispensers, and 212 pieces of hygiene kits were given to the affected families.

The distribution was held in barangay Babbanoy, Tanudan from around 5:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon of said day.


The distribution was a collaborative effort of the Department of Social Welfare and Development of Tanudan and the Municipal Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag with the aim of addressing the needs of the affected families so that they will cope during these difficult times.


As recalled, a portion of a mountain eroded last month due to heavy rains, which caused the Gappu Creek to overflow and resulted in flooding.

It was reported that two big water reservoirs, a communal irrigation system, and water pipelines in the area were destroyed. Additionally, some paddy fields were destroyed and others were partially damaged, while some livestock were reportedly swept by the water.


With the flash flood, the municipality of Tanudan declared the affected areas under a state of calamity.


The initial damages are estimated to be at P17,165,000, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
