Gayudan siblings from Pasil and Benguet win medals in Baguio Open Taekwondo Championship 2022


Baguio City, Philippines – Gayudan siblings from Pasil, Kalinga and Itogon, Benguet won silver and gold medals in the 2nd Open Taekwondo Championship of Baguio City held on October 01, 2022.


Out of the 217 participating athletes in the Sparring - Senior Women Division, Creishna Kate Gayudan snatched the gold medal, while her sister Shaira Mae got the silver.


The proud parents of the medallists are Jonathan Gayudan from Dangtalan, Pasil and Sunita Bongloy-Gayudan of Ucab, Itogon, Benguet.


The young athletes are currently studying at the University of the Cordilleras. The 18-year-old Creishna Kate is a freshman of Bachelor of Science in Psychology while the 19-year-old Shaira Mae is a second-year student of Bachelor of Forensic Science.

Their mother, in an interview, relayed that the siblings have been attending Taekwondo training since they were 8 and 7 years old and have been joining sparring events since 2011.


They have been consistently playing in Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA). Creishna Kate even reached Palarong Pambansa. Both also joined national sports competitions.


Balancing Academics and Athletics


Sunita said they allowed their children to continue joining sports events, as they are also excelling in their academics.


“So far isu nga inpatultuloy mi ti sports da ta makita mi nga haan mabaybay-an ti studies da... kanayon da met nga adda latta idiay academic achiever list… Nag-graduate da senior high idiay UC nga WITH HONORS,” expressed Sunita.
