Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Government of Kalinga, led by Governor James S. Edduba, has begun preparations for the July 9 visit of Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., with provincial officials eyeing the alignment of several major July observances to maximize resources and highlight the province's disaster resilience and development initiatives.

During the Management Committee meeting on June 29 at the New Conference Hall in Bulanao, provincial officials discussed logistical preparations and coordinated plans for the Secretary's visit, along with the proposed integration of several month-long celebrations to ensure a well-organized and meaningful program.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC) Officer Flordeliza Moldero proposed aligning the observance of the 39th Cordillera Disaster Prevention and Reduction Management (CDPRRM) Month, the 38th National Disaster Resilience Month, and Nutrition Month with the upcoming visit of the Defense Secretary.

"...since July is a celebration of Disaster Resilience month, we've discussed with the PDRRMO to take advantage of the visit and para misnanan ang preparation, we might as well align na yung ating disaster resilience month," she said.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Christian Luyaben said the province has already lined up several activities for the month-long observance, including a five- to 10-kilometer fun run and tree-planting activities aimed at promoting disaster preparedness and environmental stewardship.

He added that integrating the official kickoff program with the Secretary's visit would streamline preparations while giving Kalinga the opportunity to showcase its disaster resilience initiatives before national government officials.

"...relating to the alignment, mabalin met nga iyaramid tyo ti program nga maiyumayan tayo ditoy capitol. And according to the national resilience month, we planned for another fun run and tree planting activities intead of other activites," he said.

Meanwhile, Kalinga will also participate in the 39th Cordillera Month Kick-off Celebration in Benguet on July 1, marking the start of the month-long observance that celebrates the Cordillera's rich culture, history, unity, and aspirations for regional autonomy.

The provincial government is expected to release the final schedule of activities in the coming days as preparations continue for the July 9 visit of the Defense Secretary, which is expected to further strengthen coordination between the national government and the province on disaster resilience and regional development initiatives.
