Gov. Tubban encourages Kalinga social workers to continue performing their duties despite setbacks

Tabuk City, Kalinga – While thanking the province’s social workers for their contribution as frontline workers during disasters, Governor Ferdinand Tubban, during the kick-off of the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) Training on Tuesday, August 17, also encouraged the group to continue serving the yKalingas despite at times being put into bad light while performing their job.

“Dakayu ti talaga a makita a nu ayanen ti panagrigat, madengngeg mo ti madenggeg dita, tulungan la ngaruden, adu pay ti manggeg mo, sika pay ti dakes, ipulung daka pay kenni mayor, ipulung daka ken governor but still, aramiden tayu latta ti trabaho tayu ,” the governor said.

The governor told the group to be steadfast in their duties as he underscored the crucial roles of social workers in providing services despite the risks and challenges, such as managing evacuation centers to ensure that the public is in good hands and that government services are being delivered.

Social workers, he said, are important when communities are placed in difficult situations like disasters, calamities, and health crises, adding that they play a crucial role in providing timely assistance to the internally displaced persons inside evacuation camps.

During disasters, the governor said that “it is undeniable that numbers of families are forced to seek temporary assistance and protection when advised for pre-emptive evacuation, sometimes in evacuation centers or most often opted to stay with their relatives who are in safe places.”

This scenario would then need the help of social workers, especially that overcrowding is now a concern since the Covid-19 virus is still around.

After commending the initiative of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development in partnership with the Philippine Association of Social Workers Inc. (PASWI) - Kalinga Chapter in providing training, the governor urged the participants to apply what they will learn in managing evacuation camps, including isolation centers when they go back to their respective municipalities.

Tubban told them to share and learn their experiences to their co-workers who were not able to join.

Tubban underscored that social workers should “Continue to share rewarding stories in every critical operational work that you do. Be that effective and informed advocate for protection and do not cease to explore new and innovative ways in promoting the well-being of internally displaced persons.”

With this, the governor in his message expressed gratitude to the lead organization for the training of social workers describing it as noteworthy, given that they made a way to enhance knowledge and sharpen the skills of their participants to adhere with their mandate in making sure that assistance and protection inside evacuation camps are observed in times of disaster.
