Tabuk City, Kalinga – Local government units in Kalinga were told to intensify their campaign on COVID-19 vaccination to ensure the community’s protection against the deadly virus and to achieve the target of 70% of the population by December 31, 2021.

Governor Ferdinand Tubban made the suggestion during the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (PIATF) held this November 3 graced by the Department of Health-Cordillera personnel.

According to Tubban, LGUs should not wait for the directives from the national, regional, and provincial governments, but instead, take the initiative in planning effective vaccination strategies.

Provincial Director of Department of the Interior and Local Government-Kalinga, Engr. Mayer Max Adong supported this saying, “we cannot force the community to get vaccinated without order but there is a way ta masapul a kombinsaren tayo met a isuda.”

With this, Adong said the provincial government will issue a memorandum requiring LGUs to submit strategic plans, so officials need to formulate local ordinances relative to the vaccination program.

“In the absence of the national law mandating vaccination, I believe the local ordinance will suffice and will convince our constituents to submit themselves for vaccination,” the Provincial Director of DILG-Kalinga stated.

Government officials are likewise encouraged to check their employees if they received their dose.

Adong lauded the Provincial Police Office led by Provincial Director, Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong, for having only 5 remaining unvaccinated personnel.

As reported by the Regional Vaccination Operation Center, the province recorded an average daily jab of 1,194 from October 24-30 this year. If this continues, the province will attain full vaccination in 170 more days or more than 5 months.
