“Haan nga mabalin a lappedan ti manmanu ti butos dagiti nagadu a tattao” — Atty. Comafay, Tabuk’s No. 1 Councilor

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Attorney Errol Comafay Jr. said his impending proclamation as Tabuk City councilor is proof that the will of the people cannot be overturned, calling it a victory not only for himself but for every Tabukeño hoping for good governance.

More than a year after emerging as the No. 1 vote-getter in the May 12, 2025 elections with 43,321 votes, Comafay is finally set to be proclaimed as Tabuk City councilor, saying his victory proves that "the votes of the many cannot be silenced by the few."

Comafay topped the city council race by a commanding margin of 6,215 votes over second-ranked candidate Luchie Sarol, who garnered 37,106 votes, underscoring the strong mandate he received from Tabuk voters.

Speaking in an interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio on August 3, Comafay thanked those who stood by him throughout the legal battle that delayed his assumption into office despite winning in the May 12, 2025 elections.

“Daytuy ti pammaneknek nga haan nga mabalin nga lappedan ti manmanu nga tattao ti butos dagiti nagadu nga tattao. Daytuy ket haan ko laeng nga pangabak. Daytoy ket pangabak ti amin nga taga-Tabuk nga agnamnama iti naimbag nga gobyerno. Agnamnama nga agsardengen iti korapsyon ditoy gobyerno mi,” kinuna ni Comafay.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) earlier directed the Special City Board of Canvassers to convene on August 10, 2026, to proclaim Comafay as the duly elected Tabuk City councilor following the Supreme Court's ruling in his favor.

Comafay was unable to immediately assume office after the 2025 elections when the COMELEC canceled his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) over an alleged material misrepresentation involving the address stated in his COC.

The Supreme Court, however, overturned the poll body's decision in January 2026, ruling that the discrepancy in the address was not a material misrepresentation and that there was no intent to deceive the electorate. The Court also emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereign will of the voters.

With the scheduled proclamation, Comafay is expected to finally take his seat in the Tabuk City Council more than a year after securing the mandate of Tabuk voters.
