Human drone flies in Baguio’s 112th anniversary

Baguio City, Philippines - During Baguio City’s celebration of their 112th founding anniversary, Kyxz Mendiola flew his own-built drone car at 2.89 kilometers distance, the farthest flight on a hoverboard recorded so far.

The city witnessed Mendiola fly over Melvin Jones Grandstand at Burnham Park on September 01, 2021.

Mendiola, who is a former dancer and camera operator and a member of the Philippine All Stars hip hop band, is a self-studied engineer who ventured into creating his own flying drone car and hoverboard inspired by films “Star Trek” and “Back to the Future”.

The 45-year-old inventor told reporters he had to learn everything from the internet, spending his earned money. After six years, his hard work paid off.

In 2017, he presented Version 2 of his own invention of flying hoverboard, breaking the existing Guinness World Record on the farthest hoverboard flight. It recorded 2,894-meter travel along the beachfront of Subic Bay in Zambales.

On a feature by Jeremy Kruis through Youtube, Mendiola was quoted saying he believes that flying cars are going to be the future of short-term transportation instead of cars. His invention, also called “Koncepto Milenya,” is a single-passenger vehicle that can fly as high as 20 feet above the ground and go up to speeds of 40 mph.

“But you have to understand that when it comes to flying, it’s very different from driving. Sa driving, you have to go around roads. Sa flying, you go up, you go straight, you go down. So yung fifteen minutes flight time na sinasabi ko, malayo na mararating nun. So I think the technology is ready, we just need to start accepting it,” he said.
