Baguio City, Philippines- Local entrepreneurs and Baguio City-based livelihood association are now permitted to display their indigenous products cum promotion of entrepreneurial skills at the Igorot Park in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month.

Said event started on October 24 and will take place until November 15, 2021, after Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed Resolution no. 496 series of 2021, allowing the conduct of said economic activity by local entrepreneurs.

In a report by the Baguio Public Information Office, said move of the city council aims to heighten social empowerment by encouraging community participation, in a bid to bring back the vibrance of the local economy, which is ‘highly needed’ despite resiliency shown through local government’s relentless initiative in implementing economic sustenance measures.

The council also stated that social resiliency needs people's capacitation by providing them a wide range of opportunities to practice their entrepreneurial skills while promoting culture through these indigenous and culturally inspired products and artistic crafts.

Further, during the pandemic, the council recognized that sectors involved in startup entrepreneurship and livelihood initiatives are among the most affected during this pandemic as they lost their sources of income.

Therefore, the conduct of regular activities such as the display of the indigenous products at the Igorot Park will help advance the people’s chances of recovery from the pandemic.

Through Proclamation No. 1906, series of 2009, the month of October has been declared as the National Indigenous Peoples Month.
