Tanudan, Kalinga – Five hundred seventy-one inbred rice seeds are expected to be distributed to rice farmers in Tanudan this month, according to the Municipal LGU official.

Said project is under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Program (RCEF) of the Department of Agriculture.

Before the inbred rice seeds will be given to the beneficiaries, Tanudan Agriculturist II, Salvador Balicao, said that beneficiaries have to undergo the orientation set this November 4 at the Mabaca Municipal sub-office.

In said event, the farmers will be oriented about the program and will be taught ways on how they will utilize the rice seeds well, as well learn the preventive measures of pests and diseases.

Balicao said that distribution will be done per barangay based on a schedule in order to observe the minimum health protocols.

Based on the guidelines, Balicao said that a farmer who has 0.5 hectare and below will receive a 20-kilogram sack of rice seeds, while those who are farming a hectare will be receiving double.

He added that they were told to request more inbred rice seeds should the 571 sacks will not be enough to cover and benefit all the rice farmers in Tanudan who are registered on the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).
