Banagao, Tanudan – Municipal Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag has called on residents to avoid vices such as excessive drinking and gambling, stressing the importance of prevention and community responsibility in maintaining peace and order.

The mayor made the statement during the Kapehan Meeting held on May 11 at the Tanudan Municipal Hall in Banagao, Poblacion, Tanudan. Amid growing concerns over illegal gambling activities in the province and the increasing influence of vices among the youth, Dagadag reiterated the importance of vigilance and discipline within the community.

“Daytoy ti inayon tayo nga kitan pay—iwasan tayo ti aginom, lalo ti sugal. Imbag so far met ta awan ditoy barangays tayo ditoy Tanudan. Kayat ko lang nayunan diay reminders ni Pastor tattay—ditoy munisipyo tayo—datayo kuma mangiyuna nga mang-prevent ditoy,” he said.

Dagadag also lightheartedly remarked that alcoholic drinks are bitter and harmful to health, especially for young people, questioning why individuals would still choose to drink and become dependent on them.

With the issues raised, the mayor further encouraged his constituents to remain vigilant and continue supporting initiatives that promote discipline, peace, and responsible behavior within the community.

Gambling cases in Kalinga

Amid concerns over gambling cases in the province, it can be recalled that Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Christopher Donaal has been actively pushing measures to address gambling-related issues, particularly those affecting the youth and community safety.

In December 2025, Donaal proposed the “Anti-Gambling and Youth Protection in Peryahan Ordinance of Kalinga,” which sought to impose strict regulations on peryahan operations in the province to protect the youth from gambling and other unsafe activities.

Later, in January 2026, the measure was approved under the finalized title, “Institutionalizing Safeguards Against Gambling and Youth Exploitation in Peryahan Operations in the Province of Kalinga,” which absolutely bans all forms of gambling inside peryahan sites across the province.
