Kalinga pioneers digitalization among industries in Cordillera Region

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Kalinga will be the first in the region to adopt digitalization and electronic technology in their businesses, to bring their entrepreneurial activities to a higher level of productivity.


This is following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), DOST-CAR, and Kalinga State University establishing the KSU Local AMERIAL team held on July 05.


Regional Director Nancy Bantog stressed that Industry 4.0 will help the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with improved capabilities to advance business interests and workforce with higher market value.

“It will help us bring about Industry 4.0 in the Cordillera, marami tayong industries na kailangang tulungan to catch up, interested industries willing to adopt and include in their operations higher level of technologies such as this mechatronics, robotics, and industrial automation,” she related.


With the KSU Local AMERIAL team serving as an extension of DOST-MIRDC, MSMEs will easily avail of the consultancy services, from assessment to proposed solutions to implementation, needed for the mechatronics, robotics, industrial automation of their firms or farms.

At present, there are 41 firms or farms of MSMEs in Kalinga who were assessed by the team. Thus, these will be up for preparation of technology assessment reports and recommendations before its implementation.

The implementation of the project includes research and development, training, and technical consultancy targeting the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to increase their productivity and product competitiveness. Added to that, it will contribute to ease their socio-economic condition and become financially stable.
