“Our goal is not simply higher economic figures; we seek growth that improves the way of life” of every iKalinga - PPDC Flordeliza Moldero

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Kalinga’s economy grew by 4.9% in 2025, reaching an estimated P31.40 billion Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but the provincial government said economic progress should ultimately translate into a better quality of life for its people.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Flordeliza Moldero, represented by Maricel Salvador, emphasized this during the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Dissemination Forum held at the Provincial Capitol in Bulanao on September 29, 2026.

“Our goal is not simply higher economic figures; we seek growth that improves the way of life” of every iKalinga, the PPDO emphasized in its message.

During the forum, PSA-Kalinga Chief Statistical Specialist Maribel Dalayday reported that Kalinga’s economy expanded by 4.9% in 2025, faster than the 4.1% growth recorded in 2024.

Kalinga’s per capita GDP was estimated at P127,711, representing a 3.5% increase from the previous year.

Salvador said the data presented by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Kalinga provide the provincial government with an important picture of the condition of the local economy.

She said that while the growth rate shows that Kalinga’s economy continued to expand in 2025, the focus should go beyond measuring how much the economy has grown and examine the factors driving the growth and how it can be sustained and strengthened.

“These figures provide us an important picture of the condition of our provincial economy. The growth rate tells us that our economy continues to expand in 2025; at the same time, it reminds us that growth must be sustained and strengthened,” she said.

Looking ahead, Salvador said Kalinga’s development priorities include improving the quality of life of its people through the creation of decent livelihoods, improvement of household welfare, strengthening of local enterprises, support for farmers and workers, and expanded access to education, health, infrastructure and essential services.

“At the same time, development must protect our environment and respect the culture and traditions of our communities. Economic development and sustainable growth must therefore move together,” she added.
