Tabuk City, Kalinga – The ongoing construction of Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility (TTMF) with a molecular laboratory in the province is now 92% complete.

This project, which will serve as an additional COVID-19 facility in the province, is being implemented and constructed through the Department of Health Kalinga.

Architect Patricia Dantic said that DOH Health Facilities Enhancement Program allotted P10 million from the Bayanihan Fund 2 for the construction of said Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility for Kalinga.

Said TTMF is located inside the Kalinga Provincial Hospital compound. It consists of 21-unit pre-fabricated container vans with 42-bed capacity. Each unit is 6x2.5 meters modular, with two isolation rooms with separate toilets and baths.

Moreover, this TTMF is fully furnished with a bed, bedside table, and equipped with air-conditioning system and other fixtures.

While the project was originally for the construction of TTMF, Dantic said that they included the construction of a molecular laboratory when they were informed that Kalinga is among the recipients of an RT-PCR machine.

Said projects are expected to be finished by November and once operational, the TTMF could augment the needed beds in hospitals that were at full capacity during the surge of Covid-19 cases, Dantic said.

“Madadagdagan ‘yung bed capacity natin kasi ngayon di ba ang hospital is nasa full capacity lahat. Lahat ‘yun occupied na lahat ‘yung bed capacity ng mga hospitals, kaya ito is magbibigay siya ng tulong para ma-declog at saka magbigay ng spaces for the patients,” she said.

The molecular laboratory, on the other hand, will help shorten the waiting time for results and fast-track the Covid-19 contact tracing. Once finished, the province will now have two functional molecular laboratories.
