La Trinidad, Benguet unveils giant twin strawberry cake

La Trinidad, Benguet – As a testament to the hard work, creativity and ingenuity of La Trinidad community in Benguet, the town unveiled its giant twin strawberry cake over the weekend.

The town which still holds the Guinness World record for the biggest strawberry shortcake since 2004 reminisced about its achievement with the 7 feet tall twin cake with a length of 14 feet, and a diameter of 5 feet.

Unlike before, the giant cake baked this year features two varieties of La Trinidad’s strawberry – the white strawberry cake represents the Snow White and Milky Way, while the red represents Sweet Charlie and Chuga varieties.

La Trinidad Bakers Association composed of Apple Blossom Bakery, Badu Cakes, Ad’Laine, and Menchie’s Bakery worked together from Thursday afternoon until dawn of Saturday to pull off such a feat.

The bakers used 275 kilos of fresh strawberries in total.

With high-priced strawberries, the local government allotted P1.2 million for the cake. Snow White costs P800 a kilo, while Sweet Charlie strawberry is priced at P250 per kilo.

The gigantic twin cake was cut into 16,000 slices, of which 1,000 were given for free, while the remaining were sold for P30 per slice.

After the suspension of events in previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the town is celebrating the return of the grand celebration with a bang.

Other exciting activities this Strawberry Festival 2023 include the Search for Mr. and Ms. La Trinidad Strawberry Festival, grand float parade, drum and lyre, and street dance competition, Concerts at the Park, Strawberry Lane and Agro-Fair, and others.

With the theme, “A Festival for Recovery: Building a Brighter Future from Adversities,” the month-long festival is set to conclude on March 31.
