La Trinidad, Benguet – In times of typhoons and heavy rainfall, flooding has been experienced in one of the top agri-tourism destinations of La Trinidad, Benguet, cutting farmers’ supply and income.

This Wednesday, May 31, the farm was flooded anew due to the continuous rains brought about by Typhoon “Betty.” This is despite the efforts of farmers to fix tunnels on their farm.

Six tents owned by the Swamp Farmers Association Incorporated collapsed with the strong wind, reports People's Television Network – Cordillera.

Strawberry farmers plead that the drainage be fixed for the smooth flow of rainwater.

On its part, the local government of La Trinidad asked that the Department of Public Works and Highways give an update on the P60 million worth of flood control project.

With the project, a 2-meter tunnel will be built for the water from Gayasi Creek to flow toward Bolo Creek, preventing flood from occurring at the strawberry farm.

Meanwhile, DPWH said they are currently at 40 percent from finishing the project which they commenced this February 2023.

After putting up sheet files at Bolo Creek, they will proceed with other parts of the project such as ditch and box culvert construction.
