TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A change in police leadership should not mean an end to ongoing public service but an opportunity to build on what has already been accomplished, Kalinga Governor James Edduba said as the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) welcomed a new leadership.

Edduba delivered the message through Provincial Administrator Teddy Gullay during the turnover ceremony between outgoing KPPO Provincial Director PCol. Gilbert Fati-ig and incoming Officer-in-Charge PCol. Peter Ngabit Jr. on October 9 at the Kalinga Astrodome.

The governor said leadership transitions should be viewed as opportunities to sustain good programs and further improve the delivery of government services to the people of Kalinga.

“Laglagipen tayo kuma nga iti panagbaliw iti leadership ket saan nga panagpatingga iti panagserbi, nu di ket baro a gundaway a mangituloy iti naimbag a trabaho ken maaramid iti adu adu a pagimbagan para iti probinsiya tayo nga Kalinga,” Edduba said.

The governor also thanked Fati-ig for his commitment, dedication and sacrifices during his service to the province as police director.

Fati-ig’s departure also marks the end of his 32-year career in the Philippine National Police.

For Ngabit, Edduba expressed his support as he assumes the responsibility of leading the province’s police force in maintaining peace and protecting the iKalingas.

“Salamat and congratulations, sir iti baro a responsibilidad. Sapay kuma ta idalan daka iti Diyos iti tunggal desisyon mo ken iturong mo daytoy nga organisasyon iti babaen iti kinapudno, kinapakumbaba ken ayat iti panagserbi,” the governor said.

Edduba also emphasized that effective leadership goes beyond giving orders, saying leaders must inspire their subordinates and lead by example.

He added that responsibility for an organization’s success does not rest solely on its leader but is shared by all its members.

“Agkaykaysa tayo garud nga agtitinnulong ken agserbi kakuyog na iti napudno a puso, ta nu agkaykaysa tayo adu-adu iti mabalin tayo nga maaramidan nga pagsayaatan iti ili tayo nga Kalinga,” he said.

Leadership change

Fati-ig formally turned over command of the KPPO to Ngabit during the October 9 ceremony as he concluded his stint as provincial police director and his 32-year career in the PNP.

Ngabit assumed the role of Officer-in-Charge of the KPPO, taking responsibility for leading the province’s police personnel in maintaining peace and order and protecting communities across Kalinga.
