Quezon City, Philippines – For a unified and integrated contact tracing system, Local government units in the country are told to stop developing their own system and use the national government’s Stay Safe application.

The Department of Interior and Local Government stated in a press release that this is in preparation for the full implementation of the said app which will be the national government’s official digital contact tracing system.

DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said that for LGUs that have already procured their own system, they can utilize it but it should be integrated with the Stay Safe app as it is required under the IATF regulations.

Malaya added that the terms of the formal turn-over of the Stay Safe app from the developer, Multisys, is being finalized. When the app is handed over to the DILG as the end-user and head of the National Task Force (NTF) Task Group on Contact Tracing, a workshop for all LGUs, who have existing contact tracing system, shall be conducted so that their systems will be integrated with Stay Safe.

“A unified system will be a big boost to our digital contracting tracing efforts which will complement and assist in the work of our 255,000 contact tracers nationwide,” Malaya said.

Some LGUs in Metro Manila and top companies in the country are now utilizing the Stay Safe app.
