Lubuagan,Kalinga - As the wet season starts, various departments of the Local Government Unit (LGU) and national line agencies in Lubuagan spearheaded by the Municipal Health Office (MHO) teamed up for a move to highlight the importance of cleanliness in the environment and to remind communities that this should not be taken for granted.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) informed that a one-day massive clean-up drive was conducted on November 12, 2021, in Barangays Mabilong, Poblacion, and Dangoy. Said barangays have recorded numerous cases of Dengue, a disease expected to rise during the rainy season.

The clean-up drive with the theme "Working for a healthy community" was also held in Barangay Antonio Canao the following week, said MENRO Designated Officer Aileen Melody Alya-on. She said that the activity is likewise in consonance with the National Environmental Awareness Month done every November.

The LGU's MHO partnered with the municipality's different line agencies, the MENRO, the Philippine National Police-Municipal Police Station, the Bureau of Fire Protection - Lubuagan, respective Barangay Health Workers, and several members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program joined the cause, where three truckloads of garbage were collected.

Inimplement namin yung clean-up drive with the conduct of an IEC (Information Education Campaign) regarding waste segregation… so noong nag-round kami, nakita naming segregated naman (at) mostly na nakuha namin ay mga biodegrable,” she said.

The garbage collected, she added, was carried to the municipality's Material’s Recovery Facility (MRF) located at Awichon Eco- Park for recycling and shredding.

Meantime, Lubuagan Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus expressed gratitude to the participants stating that said activity does not only educate the people about cleanliness but also provided an opportunity to inform them that a clean environment promotes good health and is free from sickness.

“Diay panagtitinnulong dagiti agencies ti Lubuagan a mapan ag-round nga agdalus kadagiti babarangay ket mangipakita ti concern ti taga LGU para kadagiti taga Lubuagan isunga amin ket sumurot met un mancheyus (agdalus). We hope that with these efforts, our environmental projects for Lubuagan will continuously be successful ta chitaku un iLubuagen met lang chi man-benefit,” Mayor Dickpus concluded.
