Lubuagan, Kalinga – The Local Government Unit of Lubuagan observed National Disaster Resilience month by planting fruit-bearing trees at the Lubuagan Senior High School on July 21, 2022.

The said tree planting serves a dual purpose as the trees shall likewise provide food apart from helping in holding the earth to prevent erosion.

Lubuagan is one of the municipalities in the province that suffers from erosion during heavy rains.

Municipal Administrator James Tagaotao explained they have chosen to do the tree planting at the said school to address erosion in the area.

He said the area lacks trees that could help absorb water and hold back the earth from eroding.

In this year’s observance of the said event, the LGU employees along with the national agencies and the provincial LGU employees conducted a motorcade from Sitio Dinakan going to Lubuagan Senior High School for the tree planting activity.

After the tree planting event, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council proceeded to Barangay Poblacion to assess the barangay’s preparedness for disasters.

The assessment came after the barangay was nominated to join in the Search for the Outstanding Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils.
