Tuba, Benguet – A tree helped save the life of a man who jumped from a roadside concrete parapet in Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet, on the evening of June 13.

Instead of plunging directly to the ground, the man was caught by the branches of a tree below, giving rescuers enough time to reach and retrieve him alive.

According to a report from the Tuba Municipal Police Station, as cited by local media outlets, the man's 23-year-old cousin received a call from a family member asking him to check on the victim.

Upon arriving in Sitio Tukang, the cousin found the man sitting on a roadside concrete parapet with his back facing a steep slope.

Moments later, the man reportedly shouted and jumped.

The incident was immediately reported to authorities, prompting a response from personnel of the Tuba Municipal Police Station, the Bureau of Fire Protection-Tuba, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

At the scene, rescuers carefully retrieved the man from the tree where he had become trapped before successfully bringing him to safety at around 7:00 p.m.

He was then rushed to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained from the fall.

Authorities later confirmed that he is now in stable condition and has been reunited with his family.

Police withheld the identity of the individual to protect his privacy.

Following the incident, authorities encouraged anyone experiencing emotional distress, depression, or thoughts of self-harm to seek support from family members, friends, or mental health professionals.
