'Mandurukot' in La Trinidad, Benguet arrested after victim’s scream alerted police

La Trinidad, Benguet – A pickpocket who was caught red-handed was arrested at Km.5, Pico, La Trinidad, afternoon of January 25 after a victim screamed loudly which alerted a traffic personnel who responded to the call for help.


According to Police Community Affairs and Development Group Cordillera, the 32-year-old victim was walking at the place of the incident when she felt someone trying to dig into her pocket and when she turned around, she saw the suspect running away with her cellphone.

It was then that she shouted for help, and Police Corporal Marlon Esden, who was currently directing traffic at the time, heard it.


Responding to the incident, Esden went after the escaping suspect and was able to catch pin him down in the middle of the road.

The suspect, who was later identified as a certain Kevin Lumdang Villegas, 30, a native of Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, and currently residing in Baguio City, was brought to La Trinidad Municipal Police Station.


A case for violation of Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code has already been filed against the suspect.
