Tuba, Benguet - A head-on collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck along the Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet, earlier this week claimed the life of a 39-year-old carpenter from Abra.

According to the police report obtained by local media outlets, the man was riding the motorcycle toward La Union when the incident happened on Monday, May 11.

Upon reaching a curved section of the highway in Sitio Sebit, Taloy Sur, Tuba, he reportedly encroached into the opposite lane and hit the oncoming pickup truck heading toward Baguio City.

The force of the impact threw the motorcycle approximately 23 meters away from the point of the collision. The 39-year-old sustained severe injuries and was immediately brought to the nearby hospital by the responding authorities.

Unfortunately, he was decalred dead on arrival by the attending physician due to brain herniation secondary to severe traumatic brain injury.

The identity of the victim, who was residing in Kias, Baguio, was not disclosed by the police to protect the privacy of the grieving family.

Meanwhile, the pickup driver, whose identity was also withheld by the police, was unharmed. However, the front right bumper of his vehicle was said to have been damaged due to the collision.

In a follow-up report, police said the driver and the victim’s family agreed to settle the matter.

Under the agreement, the mother of the driver will shoulder the funeral and burial expenses of the deceased.
