Tabuk City, Kalinga – During the recently concluded Christmas lighting ceremony, Board Member Christopher Donaal highlighted the spirit of a true Kalinga at the Capitol Park in Bulanao on December 9, 2025, during the event dubbed “Pailaw sa Kapitolyo.”

The activity was attended by hundreds of residents, visitors, families, and friends who gathered to witness the lighting of Christmas decorations, singing performances, and fun activities prepared by the provincial government.

In his message, Donaal emphasized that the pailaw is more than just a tradition—it is a symbol of hope and resilience, adding that even in the face of disasters, the strength of the iKalinga is always evident.

“This humble pailaw is more than a tradition. It is a symbol of hope, resilience, and unity… Just weeks ago, Typhoon Uwan tested our province with its winds and floods—livelihoods disrupted, bridges falling, and families burdened. Yet in the midst of darkness, we also witnessed the strength of our people,” said Donaal.

The board member also expressed hope that the lights would guide the community toward recovery, renewal, and peace, encouraging everyone to rebuild stronger, support one another, and remain hopeful that better times will follow difficult periods.

According to data released by the Kalinga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the province incurred an estimated loss of over P1.28 billion in damages due to Super Typhoon Uwan, which was exacerbated by the shear line that brought heavy rains.

The super typhoon likewise left five casualties—four due to a landslide in Western Uma, Lubuagan, and one due to drowning after an elderly resident in Tinglayan fell into a creek and was swept away by raging water.

Dedicated to showcasing Kalinga’s resilient spirit, this year’s “Pailaw sa Kapitolyo” lit up Capitol Park with dazzling lights and vibrant holiday decorations.

“May these lights guide us towards recovery, renewal, and peace. May they inspire us to rebuild stronger, to care for one another more deeply, and to keep faith that after every storm, light will always return,” Donaal concluded.
