Mayor Dickpus underscores importance of empowered ties among LGBTQIA+ community to promote equality

Tabuk City, Kalinga―Lubuagan Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus aims to empower ties among the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) through an established productive organization in the locality.

In celebration of the #PrideMonth, the Mayor stressed this in her statement during the organization of the LGBTQIA+ Community of Lubuagan initiated by the municipal government on July 02.

Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus related that the formation of the organization is to serve as a guiding force promoting equality and human rights among the group members. Thus, it is to ensure their basic equal rights to be safe at home, at work, and in the community.

Moreover, she emphasized that the LGBTQIA+ members should be grateful for the recognition of the government of their rights against discrimination.

Dickpus related that the organization will give a boost to the municipal government on the assistance and programs for the group in coordination with other organizations, chapters, or associations to be as one with the whole community.

The mayor then encouraged the LGBTQIA+ that despite being different, they should show that they can be assets to the society and ‘not liabilities’. This, she said, can be achieved through active participation and cooperation with the programs of their organization and especially of the municipal government.

“Amma taku planuwon lu ma dapat un koon taku para si bumayuwan chi ili taku un Lubuagen,” the mayor concluded.
