Medical worker in Cagayan found dead inside box in her apartment

Cagayan, Philippines – Authorities found the remains of the missing medical health worker of Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) at around 5:00 PM on April 25, 2022 in her apartment at Tumanguil Street, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.

In a press release, Cagayan Provincial Information Office identified the victim as a certain Ma. Jennifer Suzette Oñate, 27, married, and a native of Gattaran, Cagayan.

The victim was reported missing to the authorities by her husband, Renz Oñate, on April 23. This was after he was not able to contact the victim.

Based on the investigation, authorities found the victim wrapped in a blanket, placed in a box and was hidden under the bed next to her room.

The occupant of the room where the victim was found was identified as a certain Vilfred Carodan, 31, and his live-in partner Xyzerlyn Areola Evangelista who are both natives of Barangay Smart, Gonzaga, Cagayan.

Also found in the room are luggage bag containing things belonging to the victim. These include her clothes with blood stains.

Having considered Carodan as a suspect, the police immediately launched hot pursuit operation. The suspect was arrested at 10 Lasam Street, Barangay Smart, Gonzaga, Cagayan.

He is now under the custody of the authorities for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, the body of the victim is now at a funeral home in Tuguegarao.
