Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – After her success in recent tilt, the newly-crowned Miss Tuguegarao City 2023 will soon conquer the Miss Universe Philippines stage.
Barangay Capatan’s bet Zhyra Mae T. Cabalza outshined 20 other beauties during the grand coronation held at Cagayan Sports Colliseum on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
The pageant is among the most anticipated event during the city’s celebration of Pavvurulun Afi Festival wherein the people in the locality commemorate the feast of St. Hyacinth of Poland. "Pavvurulun" in Ibanag dialect means togetherness, while "afi" means fire.
Aside from winning the coveted crown, Cabalza likewise got awards such as Best in Creative Costume, Best in Festival Costume, Best in Swimsuit, and Miss Robinson Tuguegarao Choice Award. She was further given a prize of 200 sqm lot located in Sta. Maria, Isabela.
She aced the question and answer portion where top candidates were asked of the same question, “What is your stand in allowing transgender Tuguegaraoeña to join Miss Tuguegarao 2024?”
The young beauty answered: “In a world full of chaos, I think it is now time to be more open to inclusivity and diversity. [Allowing] transgender women to join this pageant is a big stepping stone towards a new platform. I believe that women is not just about biological factors but it is also about your heart to serve the people.”
“It is how we can make a positive impact towards the community, and I believe that all women regardless of their gender, as long as they have their vision and as long as they have their mission that sparks an action, then they can make [an impact],” she added.
Jolina Z. Desiderio settled as first runner-up and was named Miss Photogenic, while Aira Mia M. Ganaban landed as second runner-up and was hailed as the Darling of the Press.
Heidi L. Corsino and Diane Nicole V. Annang finished their campaign as third and fourth runners-up, respectively. Annang got was awarded the Best in Evening Gown.
Other awardees were Kate Marinella P. Lungan as Best in Talent, Christine C. Regalario as Miss Congeniality, and Aubrey Nikolle A. Tumaneng Miss Telegenic.
“Keep focusing on personal growth”
The winning candidate took to social media to thank her supporters and everyone who contributed on her success. Also, she shared her learning in the world of pageantry.
“It's important to remember that you can't control how everyone perceives you or your efforts. What truly matters is how you perceive yourself and the value you place on your hard work and dedication. Staying true to your own identity and recognizing your strengths will build a strong foundation of self-confidence that isn't shaken by external criticism,” she underscored.
“Keep focusing on personal growth, learning, and maintaining a positive outlook, because those are the factors that truly contribute to your success and well-being,” Cabalza added.
