Updated: Sep 13, 2023

Baguio City, Philippines – The body of a construction worker who went missing for days was found buried in a vacant lot in Bakakeng Central, Baguio City on Monday, sept. 11, 2023

The victim, Joseph “Jojo” Calamba, 52, a resident of said place, was last seen by his brother Joel at their house on Sept. 03. Joseph then returned to the barracks near the construction site they were working for and has not been back since.

On Sunday, Joel was asked to look for his brother because he did not report to work for a week. He went to his brother’s barracks where he found his motorcycle parked. Later that same day, he reported his brother missing to the police.

Joel was then informed of a foul smell near the site. As early as 5 a.m. the following day, he went out to track down where the unpleasant smell was coming from.

He was led to the vacant lot where he saw a buried body.

With the joint force of authorities, the victim’s remains were retrieved and were positively identified by Joel and other relatives.

In a recent development, a suspect has been named by local police as Gil Dela Torre Rodriguez, 58, a construction worker in the city.

The victim’s relatives are not convinced that only one person is involved in the killing of their loved one.

Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the unfortunate incident.
